EasyBackup

In the "good old" DOS Days you could make a copy of important files simply by "xcopy". These days are history, but i searched something similar for Windows. A Backup solution which is file based and so designed, that you could restore the files without having the backup program. This is Easybackup. It is a Backup-program for your important document, it is file based and it is not a solution to backup the whole System.

Features:

Copies the content of user defined folders, (with all subfolders) Filter can defined, to a Target folder on a external drive or removable storage medium.
Intelligent Backup: Overwrites only files with set Archive Bit, changed File Date or changed File Size
Verify available (Backup and Sources identical). 32 Bit Hash-sum to check the Content for errors is available
Restore only files which are missing, different or all files depending on your Choice
Selective Restore of only one Folder (with all subfolders) to improve speed possible
Automatic mode : Starts with windows, make a backup in given Interval (days) and closes automatic after the Backup
The Backup contains the Source Folder Structures, so even without Easybackup you can restore it with the Explorer or a Norton Commander Clone.
Multi Configurations allows multiple Backups and Synchronization of two computers via portable Storage media (USB-Stick or USB-Drive)

Like all my Programs Easybackup comes without an Installer, simply extract the ZIP-Archive into a Folder of your Choice.

Version 2.0 (2016)

Since more and more people use NAS-Devices i improved Easy Backup. Now you can make more than one Backup in one session (multiple Backups from different Target Location were possible in Version 1.4 but you have to load them manually). The main working scheme was untouched so in one configuration you have now several target folders and drives, but all source folders are common. The main purpose is to have several copies of the data to' have at least one if there is an accident with the computer, or it was stolen or a virus encrypted all local disks.

For that the connection of NAS Drives is now possible. The drives will only connected temporary and disconnected after Backup, Restore or Compare.

Version 2.01 (1/2018)

A small improvement form the Version 2.0. The program now looks if there is a media in the drive and does not try to attempt to copy to the drive if the function "multiple backups" is used. Also a new Menu item informs about the available space on each connect drive.

Version 2.02 (3/2018)

A Mail can be send to an Mail account when the operation is finished reporting about errors. It uses SSL to send a Mail.

Zum Thema Computer ist auch von mir ein Buch erschienen. "Computergeschichte(n)" beinhaltet, das was der Titel aussagt: einzelne Episoden aus der Frühzeit des PC. Es sind Episoden aus den Lebensläufen von Ed Roberts, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Stephen Wozniak, Gary Kildall, Adam Osborne, Jack Tramiel und Chuck Peddle und wie sie den PC schufen.

Das Buch wird abgerundet durch eine kurze Erklärung der Computertechnik vor dem PC, sowie einer Zusammenfassung was danach geschah, als die Claims abgesteckt waren. Ich habe versucht ein Buch zu schreiben, dass sie dahingehend von anderen Büchern abhebt, dass es nicht nur Geschichte erzählt sondern auch erklärt warum bestimmte Produkte erfolgreich waren, also auf die Technik eingeht.

Die 2014 erschienene zweite Auflage wurde aktualisiert und leicht erweitert. Die umfangreichste Änderung ist ein 60 Seiten starkes Kapitel über Seymour Cray und die von ihm entworfenen Supercomputer. Bedingt durch Preissenkungen bei Neuauflagen ist es mit 19,90 Euro trotz gestiegenem Umfang um 5 Euro billiger als die erste Auflage. Es ist auch als e-Book für 10,99 Euro erschienen.
