Launch log Converter Tutorial 5

This little tutorial should show you the capabilities of the program, especially the possibility to create web pages. In this chapter I want you to show the date and field summary function and the chart functions.

The Date and Field summary function combines the field and date summary function. It is best explained in an example. Select the "Ariane" as an Launch vehicle. And then go to the Summary Menu and chose "Summary by date and field". The Launch vehicle as field should be preselected. Now type in the "Group by ... chars" the phrase "Ariane 4" like in this dialog. Please uncheck the "No success row", which will appear in the field and date selection dialog (and not on the field selection dialog). (When you have checked Check box "Group by first word" you first have to uncheck it to enable this edit field.

You will get an Table like this:

Summary 182 171 93,96

This is a Table, where the launches are first grouped by the Model (the phrase has a length of 8 chars, meaning that the first number after "Ariane" is used to group, but not the following numbers or chars.  At second you get for every year a column with the number of launches of this model in this year.

You can see that the Ariane 2 had her first launch in 1986 - after the Ariane 3, which started in 1984 - and the last launch was in 1989.

When you uncheck the "No success row" you will get a second row for every launch: This time only with the successful launches in this year:

You also see that the html table, and the CSV Table alone is not useful. its better to use the data to create a chart. That leads us to the last part: Charts. I first created the CSV export function to create charts with Excel.

For each summary function there is a corresponding chart. For example you can create from the data above this chart:

You easily can see how the models were used over the years.

In the chart Menu you will find a Menu point for every summary function. When you right click on the chart, you can set some options. For Bar Diagrams you can set the color of the first and the second series of bars. you can change the dimension of the chart and print or change the 3D look.

For many summary functions there are different type of charts available. Perhaps you try them to look how good or bad they fit to the data.

Two new charts are available which do not correspondent with any summary function. The success chart shows you the summarized success percentage of a launcher of the years. For example this is the success of the Ariane from 1979 up to 2008:

When you answer the Question about a summary over the years with yes, you get the Area chart in the background too:

Success Chart

The second new chart is the trend chart: It summaries to launches and the successful launches in the background and you also can show the number of launches per year: You see in all 3 Charts of this page the same data, showed under different aspects. You can include a chart in an html page when you check "Include charts in HTML". An PNG Chart with the same name as the html file will created and stored in the image folder you specified in the folders... settings.

Trend Chart

Complete in HTML

This option is used from the author for his launch lists. It groups the data after a field you say and generate separate tables for each group. foe example you can group the Ariane 5 launches after 8 chars and will get separate lists of launches for the Ariane 5G, G+, GS, ES and ECA. After these block of lists of every launch you will get the 3 summary data in html:

And the correspondended charts and also the Trend and success chart. all in one HTML chart and 5 graphics, numbered at the last position. Examples of generated HTML pages you find in my launch list section of my homepage.
